Montessori Botany Nomenclature Set For Primary 3-6 years

I am so excited to unveil my newest set of Free Downloadable Nomenclature Cards for the  3-6 classroom!

I have been working on this set for a long time.  I had been posting them as I finished them, but I want to share them in one set.  A lot of love, energy and time has gone into creating these cards. I have loved botany ever since high school when I had a fabulous teacher who was passionate in her teaching.  When I began to learn about the Montessori Method I was simply thrilled that Botany was such an integral part of early learning.  Children are introduced to parts of the plant, seed, fruit, tree, leaf, flower, root etc. at such a young age and are given unsimplified terms for them.  It was amazing to me that Maria Montessori found that they really WANTED to know what the real names for the parts of the .... were.

In my own classroom, I find the children always are so interested in the roots that they cannot normally see.  They love to take a cutting of a root and look at it closely under a microscope.  They become fascinated with the smaller parts of a leaf like the stipules, or veins that they had not really paid as much attention to before they had a name.  Giving a name to something truly does increase it's importance.

What we find in nature feeds our souls, helps our spirits to be softer and gentler.  When children are taught to care for all forms of life we can help to prepare them to be better stewards of the earth than previous generations.  The Montessori Botany program takes such care to continually expose children to the many wonders in nature.  The Botany Cabinet is so wonderful - take in the scope of learning that so many different shapes of a leaf can provide.

This is the Botany Manual I use for my yearlong program.  I have chosen to make the parts of the plant and parts of the tree as separate sets (this is different than what is in my manual).  I have also included the axis of the plant in the tree cards, and have called it the axis of the tree.  Many years of working with children has led me to the decision to broaden these lessons.

I am sharing these cards with all sets in one so it is a bigger file.  You can choose either Print or D'nealian font.  Personally, I am really proud of this set of cards.  I have wanted to make the full set for SO many years now, and it is a real accomplishment for me.  They are all beautiful and great quality as well. (I will post the Little Books in a new post SOON)
